Week 1 of no shampoo

As the title says I, for the last week, have not been washing my hair with shampoo. I had heard about it for the first time.,.. some time ago but thought "ugg not for me." but recently i have been a bit fed up with my hair. Every day it had to be washed, it had to be conditioned or i would be the queen of static, and  was getting tired of it because around 8 hours after my hair washing my bangs would already start looking stringy and greasy. So last week when i stumbled on "No Poo" again i decided "what was the harm?" I would try it for a month or two and if i saw no improvements on anything i would return to my shampoo ways. So without really thinking i went cold turkey no shampoo.

Its funny how i went from shampooing and conditioning my hair daily (the only exceptions were the week ends) to only washing my hair once every third day with baking soda. Of course i rinse my hair with vinegar daily and i have made an herbal rinse that cuts through a good deal (not all) of the grease. My herbal concoction is basically the juice of one lemon (hand squeezed) and 2 cups of tea that was brewed using Sage, rosemary, and parsley.

The sage and rosemary adds low lights to hair (i'm assuming its over time and many uses) which i thought would combat the lightening of lemon juice.

Rosemary also has other properties too though it is also a "tonic and conditioner, one of the best herbs to use, gives luster and body" (says one site). Another site also says it helps with dandruff.

The parsley also adds luster and body.

Today however i decided to remake my daily cleansing concoction. its mostly the same: sage, Parsley, rosemary. But this time it also has some Thyme and Witch hazel and much, much less Lemon juice (i basically made 1 1/2 cups of this brew and added it to the half cup of my remaining lemon mixture, other wise i did not add lemon to the 1 1/2 cup.)

Witch Hazel is also good for cleansing hair and it doesn't seem to have a lightening effect and i have yet to find that it has any stripping effect on the hair.  I do hope to get some Lavender and Burdock this week end and perhaps make another separate brew to leave in my hair for scenting purposes as well as the curative effects it may have. my hair is still wet so i'm not sure how my new witch hazel concoction works but hopefully it'll cut a little grease and i can just use it as i need to between washing.

Ah i compleatlyt forgot to mention why i am doing this. Dur. Well Going "no poo" is suposed to return your hair to its natral state, basicaly its not healthy to have your hair stripped of oils, and over time oil production will equalize and over all you should need to wash your hair less. meh i'm not good at explaining so here is a link to a site i like.

New blog

Hi there. This is my second blog and unlike my first Blog (Sakura and kimono days) this blog will be more of a diary of sorts. I will post pics and stuff that i'm trying/doing in my every day life, some will have to do with kimono, some will not. My blog will cover cooking, sewing, books and what ever i feel the need to talk about.

First i may as well tell you a bit about myself. My name is Shannon. My hobbies include cooking, sewing, reading, playing video games, and the collecting and wearing of kimono. Its an interesting set of hobbies, no?

My favorite books are "tricksters Choice" and its sequel "Tricksters Queen" both are by Tamora Pierce. My favorite videogame franchise is Harvest moon (which includes Rune Factory as well). My favorite color is purple.

As for my kimono hobby, i have 15 of the actual Kimono, around 12 obi, and countless little nick-nacks and accesories.
well that seems like enough of an intro for now.

As for some thing intersting: Today my father and I whent to a restraunt for breakfast. Just as we were about to pay we hear a loud crash from the kitchen. For about a slit second we want to cringe in sympathy but stopped when we heard a woman yell "OPPA!" (or how ever you spell that greek word they yell when they break a plate at a wedding).

Thats it for now. I'll see you when ever i post next.
